About

I'm Shane Burke — a software architect and AI consultant based in Ireland. Over the last 15 years I've designed and shipped software at scale: starting in technology consulting at Deloitte, building products across recruitment, risk and energy in Australia, delivering enterprise SaaS at Workday, and helping build mywelfare.ie, Ireland's national welfare services platform used by millions of citizens.

That mix — consulting, enterprise scale, and government-grade systems — is what I draw on now. I help teams make the architecture decisions that matter: how to structure systems so they stay fast to change, where the real complexity lives, and which trade-offs they'll thank themselves for later. I'm still hands-on in the code, most at home with JavaScript and TypeScript, React and .NET.

I'm also convinced we're in the middle of the biggest shift in how software gets built since the cloud. My view is blunt: AI is making junior engineers obsolete and senior engineers irreplaceable. The advantage goes to people who can architect the system and direct the machine — so I help teams adopt AI where it genuinely compounds their best engineers, not where it just adds noise.

If you're weighing a hard architecture call or trying to figure out where AI fits in your stack or your team, I'm always happy to trade notes — get in touch, or have a look at what I'm building and writing.

And why a lion? The question I get asked most. Not the Leo star sign (though I am one) — the Burke family crest contains a lion, so it's less random than most people think. Outside work you'll find me out on the bike, tinkering with 90s JDM cars, or playing football.
